Partners Healthcare brought in Wise Construction for the fit-out for both the MGH Institute of Health Professions (MGH IHP), on the building’s second floor, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, on the building’s first floor. MGH IHP required renovations to accommodate new research space with three sound rooms, student workstations, and a bio-motion lab for physical therapy research. In Spaulding’s area of the building, Wise is working to create a Neuromodulation Center, which allows for research on electrode stimulation to improve brain function, overall health and mobility.
The building’s vintage masonry construction caused a surprise during demolition. Brick walls were unexpectedly found behind drywall in areas that were to be removed. Wise worked closely with the end user, landlord and architect to redesign the layout, allowing the walls to stay while achieving the same goals for the space.
