In order to execute this fast-track expansion and renovation to an occupied and operational mammography center, Wise completed the work in two phases and was able to maintain operations of the suite through a lot of communication between HVMA, the project team, and end users. In the first phase, Wise completed the mammography unit, where part of an adjacent cafeteria was used to expand the department. Work included mammography rooms, ultrasound and bone-density rooms, office areas, changing rooms and a secondary waiting room. The main waiting area was partitioned off in the middle of the room, allowing staff and patients to use one half of the room while Wise renovated the second half. In the second phase, we renovated the remainder of the space while patients and staff used the newly-refreshed side. Phase two also involved the breast program, which included several offices, three patient exam rooms, a staff lounge, restrooms, and a check-in desk in the corridor. Through the use of phasing, partitions and dust control, and off-hours work, Wise was able to complete the project without disrupting ongoing patient care.
