Boston Children's Hospital

Ambulatory Enhancement Project

When Boston Children’s Hospital hired Wise Construction to renovation nearly 400 rooms in occupied space throughout 15 floors of 4 different buildings, we knew our planning and coordination skills would be the key to successfully completing the most logistically challenging project the hospital has undertaken. The Ambulatory Enhancement Project consisted of approximately 140,000 SF of renovations, including 220 exam rooms, 120 offices, 38 bathrooms and 12 waiting rooms with associated corridors.  In order to keep the hospital fully operational throughout construction, Wise devised a multi-phased plan completing all work off-hours, two rooms at a time per floor. Various corridor upgrades were completed in a single overnight shift so that no shutdowns of the space were required. Keeping the project on track with its 14 month schedule took immense coordination with the hospital’s project management staff and user groups. Many owner requested modifications required quick thinking and flexibility in order to meet turnover dates. To ensure complete cost, schedule and quality control, Wise self-performed demolition, labor, drywall, framing, millwork and other specialties.
